System Updates
Keeping the software up to date ensures you have access to the latest features and improvements. The add-in provides both automatic and manual ways to check for and install updates. Click here for more information on configuring your automatic update settings.
In order for the update system to work, you will need an active internet connection with access to https://software.snowmandesign.co.uk.
Checking for Updates
To manually check for updates, click the Check for Updates button on the Snowman Design (DDM) toolbar tab. The add-in will contact our server to determine whether a newer version is available.
Please note that if an available update has previously been marked as skipped, the add-in will treat it as though no update is available. Click here for more information on managing skipped versions.
If a new update is found, the Download Update button will appear on the toolbar.
Downloading and Installing an Update
Clicking the Download Update button will open a window displaying the following information about the available update:
- Your current version of the software.
- The latest version available.
- The file size of the update.
- The release date of the update.
- The time remaining in which this update is available to download before the process will need to be repeated.
- The release notes for the new version, detailing what has changed.
At the bottom of the window you will find four options:
- Download & Install Update – Downloads the update to a temporary location and automatically starts the installation process as soon as the download is complete.
- Download Now & Install Later – Downloads the update to a location of your choice, allowing you to install it at a more convenient time. This option can also be used to download the update file and transfer it to other computers for installation.
- Skip This Update – Marks this update as skipped so you will not be notified about it again. You can undo this at any time from the Update Settings screen. Click here for more information on managing skipped versions.
- Remind Me Later – Temporarily dismisses the update notification, allowing you to be reminded about it again at a later date.
Download Progress
When downloading an update using either of the download options, a progress bar will be displayed showing the progress of the download. Depending on the file size and your internet connection speed, this process may take a few minutes.
⚠️ Please Note: If you choose the Download & Install Update option, the installer will start automatically once the download is complete. You may be required to close Microsoft Excel for the installation to finish. It is strongly recommended that you save any open work before starting the update process.
